BRAINSTORMS
versation drifts to a topic you’re not
knowledgeable about, admit you don’t
know the answer and then explain how
you would go about finding a solution.
• Keep it professional. Avoid offering per-
sonal details that can be controversial
or have no relevance to the position.
• Know what to expect. Think about your
responses before the interview to the
staple interview questions such as
“What’s your biggest weakness?” “Why
do you want to work here?” “Tell me
about yourself.” “Why did you leave
your last job?”
• Put on a happy face. Don’t air your
grievances about being wronged by a
past boss. How you speak about a previous employer gives the hiring manager an idea of how you’ll speak about
him or her once you’ve moved on.
Green Seal of
Approval
Chicago is aiming to have the most certified “green” hotels in the nation by the
end of this year. As such, the city has
launched the Chicago’s Green Hotels
Initiative, challenging its hotels to obtain
Green Seal certification that is an environmental lodging standard with requirements in waste minimization, energy
efficiency, water conservation, waste
water management and green procurement. This program offers resources,
holds monthly best practice meetings
and provides recognition to the hotels
going green. More than 20 Chicago
hotels have been audited, which means
they have a baseline
of what needs to be
accomplished to be
Green Seal certified.
After Chicago’s
hotels have received
Green Seal certification, the city will
encourage these
hotels to pursue
other environmental
certifications such
as the EPA’s Energy
Star program and
the U.S. Green
Building Council’s
Leadership for Environmental Energy
and Design (LEED)
certification.
