ROAD MAP for the ECONOMIC RECOVERY
BY NADINE M. FILIPIAK, MS
According to many financial experts, the 2008 financial meltdown and the
long recession that followed are over and the country is recovering. If that’s
true: Where are associations on this road to recovery?
According to 12 Chicagoland associations that FORUM interviewed, associations were not immune to the economic downturn. During the recession,
association boards and staffs searched for ways to reduce costs while keeping
members and maintaining value. Unfortunately, not all were successful, as
most associations report having lost members. Many, however, kept them by
creating benefits to assist unemployed members “in transition.” While these
economic times are difficult, associations are demonstrating their resilience
by adding value for their members.
