HOW TO RELOCATE
IN 7 WEEKS
BY ANGELA M. ORLANDO, CMP, AND

On May 4, the Healthcare Financial Manage- ment Association staff began its day by con- tinuing the final preparations for the Annual National Institute. A meeting that typically attracts 4,500 attendees, it was scheduled for June 19-23, 2010, at Nashville’s Gaylord
Opryland Resort & Convention Center. Seven weeks out,
HFMA was on target to achieve the budgeted registration,
exhibit and sponsorship goals, and was issuing final communications with attendees, exhibitors and sponsors.
Its first daily e-mails answered inquiries about whether
a serious storm in Nashville would impact the meeting.
HFMA searched news sources and within minutes discovered the effects of the storm on Opryland. Throughout the
day, as news unfolded about the overflowing Cumberland
River and its damage to local hotels, the HFMA team confirmed its worst fears: Gaylord Opryland would be inoperable for months.
