In the Right Direction
By Suzi Wirtz, CAE
In 1986, several national trauma associations existed, but none
were tailored to young surgeons. Enter the Eastern Association for
the Surgery of Trauma with a mission — then and now — to provide
leadership and development for young trauma surgeons through
collaboration, scholarship and fellowship. Over time, EAST went from
a volunteer-managed group to an association managed by a full-time,
centrally located, experienced association professional. Selecting the
right person and the right location largely makes it possible for EAST
to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
