For the past few years, Association Forum
has partnered with Visit Vancouver to
bring you the Diaper Drive, a corporate
social responsibility program, at Holiday
Showcase. The Diaper Drive benefits The
Cradle, an Illinois-based adoption agency
that provides services for children while
finding them homes.
For the second time in three years,
AHIMA collected the most diapers, earning the organization the Grace Cup –
which was named after AHIMA’s founder,
Grace Whiting Myers, an honor they were
bestowed after winning the inaugural Diaper Drive. We spoke with Carolyn Guyton-Ringbloom, Senior Director, Volunteer
Leadership from AHIMA about their success in this program.
Why has AHIMA been so supportive of the
AHIMA supports this initiative because it
is great way for our staff to work together
to give back to the community.
How did you coordinate the donation of so
many diapers among your staff?
There were a series of email messages to
our staff about the donation opportunity.
In the messages, we provided options for
our telecommuters to donate as well as
shopping opportunities, including a link
to Target’s site and a personal shopper at
Costco. Additionally, in December, we had
a box available in our lobby, where staff
could placetheir donations and to remind
them as they were coming into the office.
How did you motivate people to get
We included a challenge for the staff by
department. The department with the
highest level of donations would receive a
prize, which we didn’t name to increase
interest. The prize was a breakfast for that
What other CSR/giving initiatives is
AHIMA involved in?
We participated in the Chase Corporate
Challenge and will again this year. We also
have participated in the Special Olympics,
as well other organizations.
Why do you feel that CSR is important?
It is a great way to support our community
and give back. Our members volunteer
thousands of hours for AHIMA supporting our mission, vision and values. They
help move the association forward and we
appreciate all that they give to us. By participating in this and other giving initiatives, we are giving back in a small way to
others in need.
This year, the Diaper Drive has been
expanded to be a part of Forum Forward
in June, and for the first time, anyone can
donate regardless of whether they are part
of a participating organization.
